Welcome to Heathwold Woodturning. Having served in the RAF as a Parachute Jumping Instructor for 35 years, I felt that I had achieved all I could and it was time to move into a new field. I have always had a passion for wood – my father was a joiner and boat builder – and woodturning seemed a logical move. I love the combination of artistic licence and critical path analysis that is involved in the creation of every piece.
I love to take a fallen chunk of timber from someone’s garden and turn it into something beautiful and practical, blemishes included. Every piece is unique and the beauty of uniqueness is that you don’t have to know exactly what it is going to be until it is finished.
Someone once said that woodturning is the art of making shavings. And if it all goes wrong, you still have a piece of firewood!
Visit my Ways To Shop page to check out my latest creations, my Residencies and Events page for what I’m currently up to, or the Contact Me page if you have a project in mind.
I also want to take this opportunity to thank my tutor Martin Hallam – Martin thanks very much for your patience and guidance over these last years.
